WASHINGTON — Women are holding onto their jobs more than their male counterparts in the recession as the types of jobs women hold generally offer more stability, albeit at less pay.

In the year since the recession began in December 2007, the jobless rate for men rose from 4.4% to 7.2%. At the same time, the jobless rate for women rose from 4.3% to 5.9%.

Maybe because the average salary for men is higher than women so it's more salary to get off the books. Just a thought.

I agree with ya there buddy. With the sex change I will no longer be discriminated against as a white male. With all those attractive female body parts I could dance it, sell it, hell its a whole new path in life. I could achieve a million dollars in less then2 years if I were a female with no morals. Oh yea and if the sex change is for business purposes then the surgery is tax deductable !!!

I also believe we have passed the recession label. Things are looking more like a depression in this country. If you want to argue that then come back her in a few months when gas is once again over $4.00 and state your case.

I reckon Nurses, home health aides and rehab therapists have to be among the most recession-proof occupation out there, and many more females may be in these jobs.

Have been watching the NFL playoffs and have noticed that it seems ALL of the On-Field reporters/interviewers have been female. Have been seeing more female anchors/reporters on our local news broadcasts than men as well.

Wow if this keeps up pretty soon women will be have to be the breadwinner. I wouldn't mind being a stay at home dad personally. Cooking, cleaning, taking care of the kids etc.
