OK so I have quite the dilemma- I just got through a pretty intense interview (close to an hour of nonstop questions) for a mortgage banking position. I was told I would hear back by the end of the week. Leaving the interview, I felt pretty good about my chances and was set on making my decision on going with the company if an offer was made.

However, I just got home and saw that I just landed another interview with another company doing legal admin work and now I'm confused as to which one I want to go with if I end up with two offers.

My concern here is the money (obviously). The mortgage banking position offers a base salary (in the 20's) plus commission (I was told that average 1st year totals at this company is 50K-60K- don't know whether to believe that). The legal admin position is a measly 30K. I live out in the midwest so these salaries are manageable because of COL.

I'm leaning towards the mortgage banking position but it worries me that with this economy I wont be able to pull 50K/year and be stuck pulling in just the base salary. So is it worth it to risk it and go with the mortgage banking job, or stay stagnant at the guaranteed $30K (with a puny 2% raise per year- yeah that's ridiculous). I've never done sales and I don't want to risk going into this field and not closing any mortgages with the economy the way it is.

Any input would be most appreciated!

Consider that with the legal position you'll have your nights and weekends free, with the mortgage banking you will be expected to work nights and weekends in order to meet with your customers--many of whom will call your cell day and night for rate updates.

In all honesty, I'm single so I don't have the commitment to a husband and kids like others do- just thought I'd mention that if that influences the advice others may give. So ultimately being in the office a lot is not too much of a concern for me. Thanks for your input annerk!
