I dont have alot of family to feed...just dogs and normal bills for a 22 year old in college.
Some of the salaries here though make me feel like Im a lazy cow...
I guess it is what you know, they seem low to me from my peers and employers... Most people directly over me (directorsm execs) were making 200-400k a year. Publically traded company so their salaries were public also.
even peers made more than I...
just did a quick google of former info...

I am salaried, so the hourly equivalent is not exact, but about $45/hour. A yearly bonus could add another $5-$10/hour equivalent.
As with most (all?) of the others here posting in the higher ranges, I work in an urban area, so most of my costs are higher as well. Commuting alone costs about $20/day.
I make close to $12 an hour as a bank receptionist. (I do have a degree, but it's not required for this job. My degree is in a social science field which is not real marketable around...at least at the bachelor's level.)
I have made more money as receptionist at a car dealership, but I quit because I didn't like the hours and negligible benefits there.
My husband makes a pretty decent wage, but he is IT support manager for an architecture firm, and architecture has been hit very hard by the recession. His office laid off about 2/3 of their employees and the remaining ones, including him, have had to take a 20% pay cut. I hope that things are beginning to turn around and they will be able to restore their salaries soon. We are grateful, however, he has not gotten laid off.
I would be up to get a yearly raise next month...but all raises have been "frozen" here this year also due to the financial climate.
My regular salary works out to $24.05 an hour. However, I also get "comp pay" of $1,000 a month, which is another $6.59 per hour, so the total would be $30.64. That sounds great, or it would be if I didn't live in Los Angeles, and if I wasn't paying $1,400 a month in rent! Besides, I don't take home nearly that much, of course.
The scary part is that my federal taxes are going to go up between 40 and 50% when my son either turns 24 or is no longer a full-time student!!!
Yeah... I feel a bit disillusioned about my country, giving so many jobs to people who aren't even citizens. Why did I work hard all those years only to be burning through all my savings where h.s. dropouts earn more than me now? Of course I have no health insurance either and no unemployment benefits. What business did I have doing racking my brain taking 3 calculus courses???
It really gripes me to see the only ones buying stuff at the mall are "foreigners". They're the ones carrying the designer bags, etc, while I'm scrounging with sales, coupons, etc just to have winter coats for my kids. If they were just packed up and sent back where they came from, our economy would turn around overnight!
$14 per hour part time as an assistant to a chiropractor. It's not great but I'm a college student so it works for now. Before that I made $16 per hour doing billing for a law firm. My husband was making $26 but due to the economy he now makes $23.40 and we are barely making it in SoCal.
My son, who is a full-time student, is making $8.40 an hour at Ralphs Supermarket. My daughter, who graduated last December with a bachelor's in psychology from UC Berkeley, recently quit her $15/hour job working with autistic children in their homes in favor of going back to retail; she's now working for $13 an hour part time at a nearby mall. They both still live at home with me, even though my daughter isn't technically a dependent anymore.
Even though rents have come down somewhat in Los Angeles in the past couple of years, neither one of them could afford to move out right now.
