There were no tears when Sharon Singleton got called into her boss' office to be told her job had been eliminated. Those came later.
While Singleton, one of 11 employees let go by the city of Lathrop, Calif., took a day off to figure out her next step, her colleague was quietly deciding to give up her own job to save someone else's.
Someone I know did this, she was a single girl who recently inherited property... and her fellow co-workers were struggling all with families. She volunteered to take the hit. People like this are heroes.
What I would be curious to know why it was HER job that was spared vs. the others to being with?
Also, this demonstrates how we need to find some way to deal with the growing crisis of people who are near but not at retirement age and may be unemployed for a very long time......
