Let's all apply now! What makes me think that they already have 25,000 people easily on the waiting list who already work there? Is this the new teacher shortage anyone?

This story made me laugh.
UPS hires part time people and it's a damn hard job. My husband used to work in shipping and receiving and knew many of these guys.

They had to bust their butts at bad shifts and part time work to get to the top. Many wind up injured on the job. The company clocks them with a sort of GPS to make sure they stay on task.

Yes, another myth...tons of UPS jobs..

I've understood that most of their local Teamster contracts allow a certain percentage of drivers that can be hired off the street.

So you people who are jobless won't even bother apply because you think that there is a overage, and either way it's too tough?

Wow...

I enjoy driving and have a good driving record. Is a CDL required to apply or do they give on the job training? I didn't see that in the article.

Yes, you do need a CDL. Class A for combination and 26k tractor gross. Class B for the brown ice cream trucks. UPS union contract allow 10 to 15k workers a year to become full time in the past. Their contract ends in 2012 I think, things can change. UPS also might be looking forward to YRC to close it doors. Yrc have as many as 25,000 workers and the fat lady is warming up.

UPS jobs isn't a walk in the park. Those guys be running around like chickens with their head cut off to make time.
