Meh, that's a very unscientific study.

As if music fans only use Last.fm

That website link mentioning Atlanta Georgia being the number 1 music city in the USA is automatically losing all of its credibility. It is an absolute joke to give Atlanta any compliments for the music scene, especially to say that it is the leader in music scene for USA and North America. That is such a false statement to say for Atlanta’s music scene.

These are the places in North America with much better music scenes than Atlanta that contribute to the music scene in much better ways:

North America: Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, Chicago, New York City, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, etc.

For what that website link said with the leader in Europe’s music scene (Oslo), I don’t disagree with that as much and agree with that one a bit more.

Either way, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Berlin, Bergen, Reykjavik , Manchester, Edinburgh, Barcelona, Rome etc. contribute to the music scene just as much and probably even more than Oslo.

Even in Norway itself, Bergen seems to be more of a leader in music scene than Oslo.

And why did that website link not mention places in Asia, Australia, Latin America, and Africa?

They do put a bunch of provisos. They also put Montreal tops for North American indie music.

I agree NYC, Seattle, London, Manchester etc have been creative music hubs and you can see how important they have been simply by looking at the bands they have produced.

In the US I suppose those odd findings reflect demographics to a certain extent. Atlanta with its huge black population is bound to be key with regards to black music genres. Then again, every other person is not black, so there is also a huge audience for white music.

For Europe, not sure what to make of it. Maybe Oslo is just a city with very average tastes.

Everyone knows that London has the best music scene in Europe. Indie, R&B, Dance, Rock, commercial, Pop etc all are drenched with quality and talent. Acts such as Adele, Bloc Party, Amy Winehouse, Florence and the machine, Lily Allen, Jessie J, Bat for Lashes, Pixie Lott, Leona Lewis, Jaimie T, Estelle, M.I.A, Babyshambles, Libertines, Coldplay, Dido, Dirty Pretty Things, Dizzee Rascal, Groove Armada, The Horrors, Mumford and Sons, Placebo, Razorlight, The xx, Paul Oakenfold, Basement Jaxx etc and from the past you have The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Suede, Queen, The Police, Status Quo, Sex Pistols, Pet Shop Boys, Peter Gabriel, Motorhead, Madness, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, Jamiroquai, Iron Maiden, Eurythmics, The Clash etc and you have bands and artists from other places moving to London because of its music scene.
