It may be just bias/perception but I have noticed that horoscopes are believed/taken quite seriously in some cultures, for instance, Indian culture (eg. I noticed from overhearing some time ago, international university students from India talking about it a lot, and also gossiping about how so-and-so's marriage failed because their star signs didn't match etc.).
It seemed like more people believed the horoscopes/astrological things were real, or actually did something real to influence people's lives, in India (and maybe other eastern cultures, perhaps?) than in North American/Anglo-/Western culture.
Another curious thing I've noticed is that in North America (and perhaps in other English-speaking nations), horoscopes are seen as a more girly/feminine thing, and that fewer men read them, but I heard that more people all around personally believe in it in the eastern cultures (eg. even construction workers etc. in India believe these things influence luck, fate etc.) (maybe in that regard, it belongs in the thread I created about things seen as masculine or feminine in different cultures).

I think a surprising number of people in Western countries take them seriously - or else why would they be so popular? Many men do, too, but yes it's sort of seen as a female interest.
Yes Asian countries can be pretty superstitious - in Hong Kong, for instance, many people often consult psychics and fortune tellers and the like and take them really seriously. They have their own Chinese horoscope and some also follow the Western one.

Every morning, as you have a cup of tea and some bread/jam in Italy, they have a section on the morning news that gives that day's horoscope for all the signs. I'm not joking. Every day. And this was at my relatives' home, 193 miles north of Vatican City.
I was also riding the train between Florence and Rome, and this chick, attractive and who would be chased in the US, was chatting up the guy in front of her. She got around to astrology. She was able to glean that he was a Leo. I was across the aisle, so I heard this pretty funny conversation. I don't remember whether they exchanged numbers, being in a hurry to get off at Rome.

Most people only know about astrology from the horoscope columns they read in newspapers and magazines. But, those forecasts are for entertainment purposes only and not taken seriously. They are most likely located in the entertainment section together with crosswords, fun facts, gossips etc.
People read their horoscope just for fun or out of curiosity. They feel great whenever they read something good about their horoscope signs. The forecast is always vague and general, but some people can still derive meaning from it by applying it to a particular situation.
I never read a horoscope that would say: today you will get sick and die, or: your husband is cheating on you, or: this week your boss will fire you....
