4 years later, lake Aral has continued to shrink, and Astana is still in total obscurity.

Of course, many older people will recall Ho Chi Minh City by its original name-Saigon.

What do you expect to happen in 10 short years that will make Atlanta and Houston more than what they already are?

Guangzhou, China
Harbin, China
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam
Abu Dhabi, UAE
Astana, Kazakhstan (yes, I said Kazakhstan)
Istanbul, Turkey (already a major city but will rise in prominence)
Salvador, Brazil

I don't think any European cities will rise in prominence. I think Sydney and Toronto are already now in the category of major global international hubs. I would say Seattle is also on the edge.

Atlanta, US - Agree
Houston, US - Maybe
Vancouver, Canada - Yes
Melbourne, Australia - Yes already is I would say
Brisbane, Australia - Doubt it
Shenzhen, China - Agree
Hangzhou, China - Doubtful
Guangzhou, China - Agree
Harbin, China - Doubt it
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Yes
Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam - Agree
Abu Dhabi, UAE - Yes dependent somewhat ton the oil price (I'll be visiting in Abu D in 8 days)
Astana, Kazakhstan (yes, I said Kazakhstan) - Doubtful
Istanbul, Turkey (already a major city but will rise in prominence) - Actually should decline
Salvador, Brazil - Doubtful

I'll add some:
Santiago, Chile
Lima, Peru
Hanoi
Manila
Chongqing
Bangkok (probably already qualifies)
