I am going to kick this off and say that I am a 90s kid so when I talk about the 80s or 70s ect it is only due to me thinking that was the look of that time.
Basically I am curious as to what exactly was happening around the world during these times. I am going to keep things shallow and only talk about music and fashions because if we get off into social matters I see this turning into something wild.
From what I understand/viewed in America (The only place I can talk about myself) in the 60s (I think) was all about Swing music/dances (I wish we had big bands!), and I think Flappers...Right ? I have no idea.
70s I think we know what was happening then people seemed to big on an all natural look back then. Loved the look and feel of that time. Good music to!
80s some of the best time period in music. The late 80s really seem to be the rise of hip hop and such. Many say the 80s was about as tacky as it got when in reality I believe the early 90s was when the 80s had that Blondie/Madonna look
90s (Here I come mid 90s) I am still unsure on what was the look then but I was a Britney Spears/ Nsync kid and I guess that was the Millennium thing everyone was so hocked up on but I wont focus so much on the 90s would much rather prefer to view the 80s and below.
What I am wondering is to what was happening around the world during these times.
What were the looks like in Europe around these time. What were they listening to in Africa, Australia, Croatia, Canada, England, Japan (Who was 'big' in Japan in the 80s, what was considered 'the look') considering when I was growing up I had no idea half of these places even existed so I could only imagine they were doing something completely different during these time and I thought it would be interesting to find out about them.
60s Britain: Arrival of mass immigrants from the former British empire, crazy hairstyles
70s: Racism riots?, colour tv
80s: my brother was born LOL! 'Thatcher years?'
90s: I was born
00s: technological world, huge advances in science, current war in the middle east (2003) for oil, 9/11 7/7 bombings
60s: Finlandization - urbanization, mass migration, self cencorship, rock 'n' roll, twist, skirts, The Beatles, b&w tv and monophonic vinyl records.
70s: Radicalization - youth movements, the welfare state, ABBA, punk, disco, progressive rock, color tv and 12" LP-records.
80s: Liberalization - overheating of the economy, suburbanization, liberalization of the society, yuppies, Miami Vice, synthpop, rock and heavy rock, Finnish bands starts to sing in English, the C-cassette and the C64.
90s: Europeanization - The EU, immigration, economic recession, bankruptcies, mass unemployment, cell phones, skating, trance, dance and house, hip hop, The CD and the PC.
00s: Globalization - revival of the economy, revival of the cities, the end of the dot-com bubble, Finnish rap, heavy metal, talent shows, reality-tv, the Internet, the MP3 and the iPhone.
Scotland - I only remember the 2000s so this is just what I think of personally.
60s: Celtic winning the European cup. Serial killer "Bible John"
70s: Slums, gangs, Scottish separatism.
80s: Thatcher ripping our country apart, still dealing with the consequences today. The Stone Roses in their prime, my favourite band.
90s: Dunblane school shooting, Football hooliganism, Ectasy pills, Raves, Britpop, Scotland at world cup.
00s: Wars in Iraq & Afghanistan, Scotland getting vote on independence.

I think only a few countries truly experienced 'decades' in the same/similar way that the US did. They are mostly the first world countries. Less has changed in somewhere like India, for instance, in terms of culture. Australia pretty much followed the US in terms of pop culture.etc, starting from the 1950s and possibly earlier, although we didn't really have a Roaring Twenties or Prohibition. I was born in 1986 so I remember the 90s well, we listened to pretty similar stuff on the radio.etc.

I would say "western countries" instead of "first world". In Latin America - third world, but western - many things changed, following the trends in Europe and, mostly, in USA.

But developed Asian countries like Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and to a lesser extent Korea and Taiwan and even Malaysia and the Phils also experienced the fashions.etc of each decade/period.
60s: 1968 movement, discovery of oil, Labour Party dominance (though not as strong as in the 50s)
70s: EU referendum in 1972, oil production started, women's right (feminism), radical left-wing parties and movements
80s: Yuppies, conservatism (politics), a populist anti-immigration party gain popularity (The Progress Party), end of the Cold War (the Russian threat), banking crises
90s: Banking cries (government bailout), EU referendum in 1994, the 1994 Winter Olympics at Lillehammer, The Government Pension Fund of Norway (oil fund) established, cut in military spending, electronic technology (Internet revolution, affordable cell phones)
00/10s: Globalization, The Progress Party grow much stronger, Housing boom, individualism (education, cultural, income gap), Electronic technology (smartphones, Internet banking, social media), red/green (socialist/agrarian) government, the 2011 terrorist attack
