Let's say that we're ranking countries based on the richness and depth of art, music, literature, theater, philosophy, education, architecture, museums, fashion, food, dance, celebrations, etc., that they have produced and currently cultivate. What country do you think is the best in the world in this combination of qualities?

By the way, this is without any regard to the socioeconomic status of the country.

IMHO, basically all of these places are very culturally rich, and it's difficult to quantify how any one would be "more" than another.

Even relative newcomers like the US, Australia, and Argentina have extremely rich cultures hewn from being distant and expansive colonies that required their settlers to adapt to and develop new environments, and the interaction and integration of other cultures, native and immigrant, which leads to their own formulations of literature, film, industry, commerce, politics, cuisine, etc etc etc. And, the youngest nation on there - the modern iteration of Israel - while controversial and oft-maligned, does indeed have a very unique and rich culture borne of being a young nation formed on an ancient religion, and by mortal, sworn enemies who ceaselessly seek to undermine if not outright destroy it. All these things lead for them to be drastically unique to amazing ancient and renaissance cultures such as Egypt, China, Turkey, Italy, England, France, Japan, etc.

I think most people who vote are just going to choose the country they are most familiar or fascinated with. Pretty much no one is going to be equally familiar with all of these places... Mexico blows me away though.

Italy or Spain.

Very old countries with different cultures mixed during lots of years, great heritage, variated languages etc.

BTW, I meant to put Brazil in the poll and thought I did. Definitely a glaring omission. Oh well.

China by a long shot. Man, look at the breadth and depth of that nation's cultural heritage. Goes 5,000 BC and beyond!!! Everything about China is so significantly different than everywhere else!

I also selected Italy to represent the West.
