I think this is a really good point. Most people probably would not identify it as a place with ethnicities that originated in other countries like China. Many would probably answer if pressed that people in Singapore are of Singaporese or Singaporean ethnicity, and expects that that exists like Vietnamese or Indonesian do.
Yeah, I don't know much at all about Singapore. The only reason I know Chinese is big there is because I had a Malaysian friend who went there a few times.
Before that I would have just assumed they were just Singapore without being so multicultural.
very little. Singapore don't export a lot culturally or export products.
People all over east & southeast asian watch japanese, south korean, chinese, hk and taiwanese drama, movies, pay attention to their stars, siingapore do not export a lot of these stuff. Famous Singaporean Chinese entertainers usually base themselves at Taiwan or China, and mainly pop musicians, few people are interested in singaporean drama and movies.
Japan and other asian tigers have many worldwide famous brands too.

Yet Singapore very important economically in the region, and is a major trade/transportation hub. It's sort of caught between three worlds: the Sinitic world, the Indic world and the Malayo-Polynesian world. There are Bollywood films set in Singapore, films produced in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and even Japan and Korea set in Singapore, as well as Indonesian and Malaysian.
But no, Singapore isn't that well known for it's entertainers or artists, and is a bit small to really compete with Taiwan, Japan, S.Korea, China in terms of technology. I feel it's technology sector might've sort of declined because of the rise of China.
