Do you prefer to live by the sea? If yes, how critical is it when you choose where to live?

We can get to the coast in around half an hour and my wife says that she wouldn't want to live somewhere such that it takes too long to get there.

That said we're not fussed about living right on the coast.

I have never lived more than 10 km from the sea, so it would be a huge culture shock for me. Coincidentally I was google sightseeing a bit in interior British Columbia today, and thought that it would be very weird to live in a place like that. A small lake or a river just won't do it. So yes, I definitely prefer living by the sea/ocean, but I'm quite confident I could live without it.

And I don't even swim. I just like to look at it.

I would enjoy living by the sea/ocean but as it stands now that would mean separating myself from conveniently seeing/being around my grown children. They are really all that I have left and I would never purposely separate myself from them...I can live without the beauty and tranquility of a body of water but not without my kids.

But that's just my personal preference.

It is critical for me, the primary factor on where I live; this is why I live in Miami, in an ocean side condo with a nice view of the ocean (technically view of the intercoastal).

I live 350 o 400km far from the sea since I was born, although I love the sea it is not difficult for me to be far from it, but I remember with good memories the feeling I had every summer near the sea, with all the vibrant atmosphere, summer music, the smell, eating paella next to the sea... amazing!

I prefer lakes over the sea, I enjoyed my time in Southern Finland and Hong Kong, though.

A classic "I don't care". Quite happy with Neusiedlersee or the Danube for the occasional swim at the moment. Sailing and windsurfing is also quite good at those two spots.

I grew up four blocks from the sea and have never lived more than1 K away. I can even see it out my living room window.

I agree, small lakes and rivers can be nice to visit, but even huge lakes with nice beaches are not the sea.
The sea seems more alive and I love the salt air.
