I did Abu Dhabi to Toronto last May, and I'm about to do it the other way around next month again. I think it's 12.5 hours or so. If you prepare for it mentally the weeks leading up to it, it's never as bad as you'd expect. In fact, I would say the two longest flights I've taken (the aforementioned and Cancun-Madrid at 9 hours) were among the most painless because I knew they would be long enough to not look forward to arriving to my destination.
When I fly Toronto to Brussels, those are the worst. At 7 hours, two meals, and in-flight entertainment, I always expect it to feel really quick but it seems to take ages instead.
My first flight to the US felt really long because of the anticipation...on the way back, it was a bit of a downer, I actually managed to sleep half that flight.

I dunno. I guess it's the same thing as being a sleepless 10 year old Christmas Eve vs. being like 30 and not caring. If you keep checking the time and thinking about how awesome of a time you will have in X location, it'll feel like it's trudging along more. But you're right, it still sucked.
