Plantedbystreams I have never been to the north east of the USA, but from your picture it looks similar to parts of my hometown, same types of homes in the west of Dundee

Yikes, talk about cold and dreary ...
No pic from me (camera gave up) but very similar !
How often does it look like that in AK ?
And how long does it stay that way ?
Interesting that the amount of snow on the roofs is less than right next to your car ...
We get that much often where I live, but never that many snow drifts !
Thanks dunno. And hey we've got spare shovels if you want to come help out...

Most of the state doesn't get anywhere near this much snow. This is even a high snow year for Valdez, which is the snowiest town in the US by far. Snow starts around the first of November, and depending on temps I expect a snow-free yard sometime in the first half of May.

The snow on the roofs is just from the last snowfall or two. The snow on the ground is what's fallen over the course of the winter, after it's melted a bit and compacted.

Those aren't drifts. There are spots where it's been blown (by snowblowers) into slightly higher piles, but mostly, especially in the back window view, that's just fallen, compacted snow. We've gotten just over thirty feet so far this year.
Front window, sorry for quality, the photo taken from cell phone
