If you want to star on tv/film or be a model/prostitute yes but for all the other jobs being smart/productive/motivated is more important.

For careers like Dr's, lawyers, bankers and engineer I would say no but for careers in hospitality like being a bar tender and jobs like model, actor, TV host it does matter.

I read recently that (in the US) it's harder for attractive men to get hired because subconsciously we view them as more competent, so for fear of competition they are not hired. But once they do get a job, they are usually promoted much faster than other people.

Almost every country's economy is moving toward more jobs in the service sector, which means more jobs for people who have direct contact with the customers. Personal appearance, then, is increasingly important in one's capacity to perform successfully in the workplace, and can in some instances be a justifiable criterion in hiring selection.

So I'd have to say Yes, there is an economic advantage to be better looking.

This is anecdotal, but my mother worked for many years in retail ladies wear. She said fat ladies were far less likely to stink up the fitting rooms.
