Yes I can, some words and sentences change but it is understandable, Don Quijote book is usually in the original dialect for example, and other books we used to read at school.
It depends. Some ancient Chinese texts could be incredibly difficult to understand.
Usually the older the texts are, the harder they are, though it's not always the case.

I don't understand Old High German, but can read bits and pieces of Middle High German and Early New High German. But frankly, even the latter is a pain in the ass to read. Mostly because the Syntax is quite messed up.
