The concept is easy, think of a country and assign a song to it. It's landscape might be the easiest bet, but the choice can be influenced by anything, really.
This is an interesting topic. Some choices are obvious, some are a bit weirder, I admit.
Italy: this Hebrew slaves' chorus from the opera "Nabucco" has been referred to as an unofficial national anthem for Italy. It was apparently popular during the struggle for the reunification of Italy during the 19th century. It's quite beautiful, evocative, stirring... something about the melody seems so perfectly Italian, too:
Britain: "My Generation" by The Who. It could've been so many other songs, but this one automatically makes me think go the Swinging 60s, and everything else British.
France: "La vie en rose" by Edith Piaf. Still playing everywhere in Paris. "Je ne regrette rien", also by Edith Piaf, the song of the French Resistance, is a very close second.
Could it be because the official video kind of looks like it could have been filmed in the rougher parts of Montreal?
