I opted to post this one here.

What bands or songs remind you of Colorado (if you live there, used to live there, or are thinking of moving there)?

For me Bob Segar and Jackson Browne come to mind. Verses in the songs about heading east, heading west, open highways, open skies, etc.

"Baby Blue" - George Strait
"Rocky Mountain High" - John Denver
"When My Ship Comes In" - Clint Black
"Coast of Colorado" - Skip Ewing
"Please Come to Boston" - Dave Loggins

Of course all of them mention Colorado (or Denver) in their lyrics.

Lots of songs from Dan Fogelberg, of course, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (Colorado Christmas).

Of course anything by John Denver, but also Jimmy Buffet, Carol King and James Taylor, folk songs and fun days! Since three members of Earth, Wind and Fire, including Phillip Bailey, went to Denver East High School, I think of east Colfax, City Park and the Curtis Park areas when I hear their songs, plus all those funky outfits. India Arie and The Fray are also from Denver so they remind me of home.

Anytime I hear our national hymn, "America the Beautiful" and the lines,

'O beautiful, for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.'

The words are by Katharine Lee Bates, and in 1893, she took a train trip to Colorado Springs, to teach a short summer school session at Colorado College, and several of the sights on her trip were incorporated into her poem, which became 'America the Beautiful'.

Judy Collins and Cher have homes here and include aspects of Colorado in their songs. And finally, the older U2 songs as they did their "Under a Blood Red Sky" concert and sequential video at Red Rocks Ampitheater in the early 80s. Fantastic concert and unforgettable event!

Almost forgot, Elvira's sultry voice, since she was from here and the music from the shows - Rosanne Barr, Tim Allen and South Park! Amazing when I am on the road in other cities and I hear the music from these shows on late night rerun TV, I smile and miss home.

Christmas in Dixie by Alabama...I know, CO is not the south, but we always played it during Christmas at our cabin in Pagosa and there's a line in it: "it's snowin' in the pines" that always makes me think of Pagosa.

Warren Zevon's "Things To Do in Denver When You're Dead"
For those who remember it, the song even has a Rattlesnake Cafe. (I think the 80's yuppie restaurant was actually called the Rattlesnake Club.)

"Colorado, My Home" from "The Unsinkable Molly Brown." Unfortunately, Harvey Presnell butchers the pronunciation of "Colorado" in the movie version.

On a jazz note (can't resist), "Swingtime in the Rockies" by Benny Goodman.
