I've lived in a town of <1000 people for the vast majority of my life, so boredom due to population hasn't really occurred to me. Honestly, one could argue that more population = more boring.
Lived in cities with a population of 2k, 24k, 180k, 190k, 1.8M and 7.2M. Visited cities with 10M+.
Frankly, I wouldn't want to move to the 2k and 24k towns again. While it was nice to live in bigger houses, it sucked that you had to go to Linz (190k) for pretty much everything.
That said, there are huge cities that are boring. So yeah. Really depends on the specific cities.
ehh, it's pretty hard to just go solely off of numbers. New Orleans has 400k people, Savanah, GA has 140K people and I find both cities to be far more interesting than places such as Houston which as 2 million people or Singapore which has 5.3 million people.
The population size doesn't have a whole lot to do with it. Some people get bored unless they're in a "world class city" such as London-NYC-Paris-Tokyo. There are a lot of other cities with large populations that still don't have a lot of excitement or broad choices of entertainment available. Or they lack a socializing culture, or something. They just don't "gel" when it comes to the heart of the city.
Yet, there are smaller cities where the population is laid back, everyone's really upbeat and loves to socialize, there's a constant liveliness day and night, and the place just has a vibe. Smaller cities can have a lot going on for them.
I'd say it depends upon the place, not necessarily upon the population size. Even affluence doesn't have a lot to do with it... I'm sure Copenhagen is very lovely, but would you consider it more "exciting" than Las Vegas?
