Earth can be divided in "hemispheres" using latitude or longitude as criteria.

If we use latitude, Earth can be divided in Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere.

If we use longitude, Earth can be divided in Western Hemisphere and Eastern Hemisphere.

According to Wikipedia, about 90% of the world population live in the Northern Hemisphere compared to 10% in the Southern Hemisphere. Also, according to Wikipedia, about 82% of the world population live in the Eastern Hemisphere compared to 18% in the Western Hemisphere.

Now, imagine that we divide Earth in four portions: North portion of Eastern Hemisphere, South portion of Eastern Hemisphere, North portion of Western Hemisphere, and South portion Western Hemisphere. How many percent of world population live in the North portion of the Eastern Hemisphere? And how many percent of the world population are left for all the other three quarters of the Earth?

It's interesting to realize that, if Earth is divided in those four quarters, the huge majority of the world population is concentrated in just one quarter.

Yes, basically 80% of humans are in this same area.

To be honest this kind of overpopulation disgusts me somewhat. The US for me has the perfect population for a country its size.

We live in a world where Nigeria has more people than Russia and Indonesia more people than Brazil, no-wonder the majority of people in these countries are endlessly poor.

Overpopulation is not an excuse for poverty.

The area in the circle having more than 50% of the world population is very interesting...

But I think the North portion of the Eastern Hemisphere has more than 70% of the world population, maybe?

Nigeria, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt are located in the North portion of the Eastern Hemisphere. As well as Germany, Italy, most of France, Turkey and Iran.

I guess this quarter of Earth has easily more than 70% of the total population.

Japan has 340 inhabitants per km2

France has 116 inhabitants per km2, and Germany has 227 inhabitants per km2

I would say Japan is somewhat overpopulated...
