I get the argument in terms of division of powers and attitude towards federalism, but Scotland joining confederation wouldn't make economic sense because their geographical location means they need different trade strategies and to make different trade offs. We're just too far away from each other for a trade union to be a natural fit.

The distance would ruin it.

Despite their fervent rivalry, I'd rather Scotland should join Ireland (if anything).

I get the impression that nationalist Scots feel more aligned with Europe than Canada. I think Canada is perceived as too foreign and although Scots like Canada a lot, certainly way more than their southern neighbour. I don't think Scots would want their culture to become more Canadian. I don't know any Scots though, so I understand if this opinion is disregarded.

They talked about Iceland adopting the Canadian currency back in 2008 or 2009 when that country was hit hard by global economic forces at the time. That of course never transpired and the likelihood of this happening is next to nil. Gives someone something to talk about I guess!
That all said, with half Scottish blood running through my veins and an incredible love for everything Scot, I would welcome them with the biggest open arms possible :P
