What part of Shanghai is he talking about? Pudong is a modern district with a ton of sleek skyscrapers, which gives it a modern day facade. The important thing to remember is that many projects have been carried out in Shanghai and across China over the past 20 years. That gives the impression of a large booming economy.

London is no slouch either, as they've had their fair share of developments as well.

Generally the big cities in Europe are "small" compared to the equivalents in Asia. I know china has changed a lot since i was last there, 12 years ago, however while the tourists districts, might appear prosperous, most of the areas in the city are/were not.

My wifes family live in an area of Seoul that looks almost exactly like this (down the Alley, which is too narrow for cars), its how most people in the city live, and i am sure shanghai would be very similar.

..Maybe it's because European countries have changed so little I remember from 1970 to 2000 when Chinese went to western countries They think the west is good But now it looks older and smaller Shenzhen is a small fishing village But in 2020 shenzhen is bigger and more prosperous than Hong Kong Hong Kong 7.5 million people shenzhen 13.4388 million people In fact, shenzhen is more modern and high-tech than Shanghai In Shanghai you will see old Chinese architecture and old western architecture

It depends how you define change. European cities would traditionally build outward rather than upward in order to preserve their historic downtown cores. There's plenty of change however, when it comes to the social fabric of society.

London has a GDP almost as big as Singapore and Hong Kong combined, whilst Canary Wharf alone is a bigger financial centre than the whole of Frankfurt.

List of cities by GDP - Wikipedia

The City of London and Canary Wharf are expanding, abnd are being joined by new financial areas in the Docks, whilst London has seen a lot of foreign investment over recent decades.

London's growth has been at around 20% since 2012, and this is despite global problems and brexit.

London is a very expensive city to buy property in and there are numerous billionaires rows bth in the centre and suburbs.

Total Nonsense, written by someone with a poor knowledge of London development and the area around London.

London has an area as big as Singapore to develp on it's doorstep in terms of the Thames Gateway and the current redevelopments at Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks are very impressive. There are also major redevelopments taking place across London in areas such as Nine Elms/Battersea, Oak Common, Stratford and countless other locations. Crossrail is about to be finally finished in the next year, and London is making way for the new HS2 rail links from Euston.
