I don't mean prettiest, or majestic, or diverse. I mean best within the context of geopolitics.

What country has most benefitted by virtue of its geographic shape, biomes, waterways, mountains, resources, minerals, coastline, etc., etc.?

I think notable contenders are India, Japan, Taiwan, United Kingdom. The first is shielded from China by the Himalayas, receives bountiful water from it, has two gigantic rivers that make it among the most fertile land, and it has unfettered dominance in the entire Indian Ocean.

The latter three (and especially Japan, UK) are unsinkable aircraft carriers, large enough geographically to be world powers, close enough to trade with their much larger continental neighbors, but still detached enough that invasion is nearly impossible. Australia is another example, though one which is more isolated.

China, North Europe, USA. Reliable rainfall, temperate climate, navigable rivers.

Being physically close to China and Russia is terrible on principle.

Great Britain and Japan are major powers on islands so I would say that they have the best geography. The waterways surrounding them has saved from invasion numerous times. Of the two, I would say the British have the best geography as Japan is far more likely to be struck by natural disasters; earthquakes, volcanos, hurricanes, kaiju attacks, etc.

In fact we know from history, that geography has served both Britain and Japan well. For instance, at different times in the last 400-500 years, Spain, France and Germany, were stronger then Britain but they could not conquer Britain. Not even Hitler or Napoleon could cross their armies across the English channel.

The top tier countries are
1. Mostly or entirely in the temperate zone
2. Have plenty of warm water ports
3. Appear mostly or entirely green from a satillite image. (Ex. Japan, France, Germany, Korea, The UK)

I also count China & USA as top tier because although they have brown areas (desert/semi-arid), they have more green territory than the other top tier countries.

Temperate forests are good for supporting large, dense populations. They have good soil and plenty of water. Good for producing grain efficiently to support a large, well-fed workforce.
