I have seen both spellings used in reference to leaflets. Most of the time I see "flyer" used.

the dictionary has it flier is something that flies and flyer is a circular. As if Webster is up on what's going on today. LOL

The various style and usage manuals do not agree upon which spelling is correct for which definition of the word. So, as a good rule of thumb, take what the AP Style Book says and do the precise opposite.

FLYER is a variant spelling of FLIER. When I see flyer I think of planes/ passengers. When I see flier I think of handbills and brochures. The two words are interchangeable. I often use the Thesaurus to clear up murkiness.

Yes, but even the usage manuals do not agree which is which.
