I've written a manuscript that I think is gonna be a great reader...
I work in CPS (child protective services), and my story is about CPS workers, albeit fictional characters. I even wrote in a disclaimer, "Any resemblance to happening(s) and/or person(s)...is purely coincidental" Would I be safer to use a pseudonym, so that no one can come after me?
Nom de plumes are used quite often. Why people choose to do so is varied.
Andre Norton was a science fiction writer, but female in a male dominated area of writing. That was a decision based on commercialism.
You have a different scenario. Now you say you have stated that any similarities is coincidental, but worry about someone know it is you who wrote it and 'coming after you', then I wonder how coincidental it really is.
Perhaps if your story contains close to true events, you may want to revise your statement and express that names and places have been changed to protect the innocent.
If you are that concerned, indeed, follow TroutDude's advice. Talk to a lawyer.

you want to use a pseudonym automatically to protect your real identity. Readers are interested in your written content not your name. Besides, when the name comes into play is when people want to contact you about good things about your writing,...or when somebody wants to check up on you for employment, e.t.c. In which case you do not want any favorable decisions about your career being distracted by the fact that you're a writer.
