HI everyone!

We are looking to Wyoming again...we were in Laramie for a short time, and came back to Texas. My step mom (pretty much like a mom to me) passed away suddenly in November and our family has pretty much split up since then. My husband and I want to go back to Wyoming for many reasons:
1. lack of allergens
2. no hurricanes, fleas, mosquitos (at least not like in Houston)
3. safer for the children
4. overall quality of life
5. lack of air pollution
6. outdoor activities!

Laramie was rough..the wind never ever stopped. We were curious what are the booming industries in WY. I know the mines in Gillette are always hiring..he's a Maintenance Supervisor right now for a large drill pipe manufacturer. Unfortunately the current situation has slowed down production and all bets are off when it comes to job security. Can anyone point me in a good direction? I've looked on Wyomingatwork.com and Indeed, but wonder if the good folks on this forum can help out with any good industry prospects?

I'm a stay at home mom, well, actually I'm a student too. Would like to work in IT after graduation, but really, just want a good job that affords me time with my family and helps pay some bills.

Oil/gas is big here. Energy in general.
Most of it is pretty tough work due to weather conditions but the pay is good.
I work in the oil fields and have done it for 6 years now. The winters are tough depending on what you do. I make enough to support my family and allow my wife to stay home and raise the kids. So far it has been good and steady. Most wells have a 25-30 year production life. And they are still drilling new ones. So the longevity is a plus.

Looks like Gillette, Casper or Rock Springs will be your best bets job wise. I hear the wind in Casper isn't much different than Laramie/Cheyenne so personally I wouldn't want to be there lol. A lot of people hate living in Rock Springs and I used to be one of them and then I moved to Delaware, now I love Rock Springs and don't ever want to live anywhere else.(It was an eye opener to say the least) Spring/Summer doesn't come around here to stay until June but it has still been in the 80's in October every year since we moved here 7 years ago. There is no wind here in comparison to Laramie, a huge plus in my book! While there are a lot of roughnecks here that don't bring their families with them there are also a lot of families here that are from here or have made this their permanent home and whom care about this town very much. It is a long way from anything, 2 1/2 hours to SLC and about 4 to Cheyenne. One becomes very adept at shopping online. It gives a nice excuse to go out of town for the weekend too.
Look on Exterran and Anadarko's web sites for jobs. Also the Rocket-miner is the paper here and there are always posting in it. You can find it online.
Good Luck!

I believe the most chatter in Wyoming now is about the Niobrara oil play. This activity is located from North East Colorado north of Denver, thru the Cheyenne- Laramie area and is thought to go up as far as Casper or Douglas. I've heard there have been a few very promissing wells drilled, will the price of oil as high as it is I think it is more than likely lots of drilling will follow. If you would rather not be in Laramie or Cheyenne, I hear pretty nice things about Douglas.

Good luck.
