Nah, the salary offered there was too low to survive. Plus we like Wyoming but not in the winter . Looking to split existence 4 months in WY or MT or ID and the rest in FL.

Feed in the Sheridan area is decent. $60 a ton for big round. $65 a ton (33 bales) for small square bales that are 70% alfalfa 30% hay. The square bales, you will load yourself. These prices were good 2 weeks ago and this year looks like a good one for hay and alfalfa.

If you go to Realtors.com you'll find lots of properties. I found several 20-acre properties on there for less than you were asking for. It's just about where you search.
But there is this one in Preston, ID that was very attractive. http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...3_M12788-71263

Hmmm. When we were in Dubois we bought up a bunch of Timothy hay for $3/square bale....

Small quantities of horse quality small bales these days are running $6.50-$9.50 per bale at the feedstores around the SE portion of WY.

Of course, buying by the ton ... in multiple tons ... will reduce the cost per bale, but then there's the shipping costs.

Easy to find mountain timothy, alfalfa, and various grass hay blends this year. We had adequate moisture last year and it's been steady and adequate so far this year. We'll see if it makes it to first cutting and beyond, which will help keep prices lower this year for bulk hay. But with the fuel costs and machinery costs this year, I don't expect hay to get lower than last year.

Be careful when you're looking at small acreage parcels in Wyoming when it comes to CC&R's, water availability, and zoning issues re horses on your property.
