Can anyone who lives in Wyoming please tell me a little more about it and what's going on? I don't see it holding me back from possibly moving there, but I am naturally curious, too.
It could blow up in 2 years from now, or in 5 million. Before it erupts there should be signs months in advance. It doesnt matter where you live though it could sent the whole earth into an ice age, and bury a big portion of NA in dust. I wouldnt worry about it.

Actually from what I read it isnt going to blow up tomorrow without warning. It isnt a normal activity and scientist are saying that it would start acting up sometime before it erupted. It doesnt really matter though. NA would be ****ed, and the world to a lesser extent.

Actually, NA would arguably fare better than much of the world.

We have the stockpiles and resources (and big guts lol) to stave off the global famine that would be the big killer.

The real irony being that we'd certainly not have to hear everyone arguing about global warming or not.

I dont think you understand the consequences of the Volcano. The eruption would be like 100 nuclear bombs going off. Wyoming and the bordering states would be completely destroyed. Most of the US would than be buried under ash. We are talking of 20 feet of ash. Maybe the government in their super bunkers would be ok.

The rest of the world would just have to deal with the sun being blotted out for a decade, maybe more, and extreme winter, which NA would also have to deal with.

Yellowstone has a ~600,000 year cycle. Last eruption was 640,000 years ago.

I have a sample of ash from that eruption that I found near Montrose, CO. There are still a few pockets of it here and there. It's called the Lava Creek B Ash. They use it as one of the datums around here to calculate the average incision rate of the Colorado River. (10-15cm/1000yrs)

I wouldn't worry about it much. You can't do anything about it.

The way I see it, I'm pretty close to ground zero so I will barely have time to yell "Oh ****!" when it happens.

Well when it happens I will gladly meet with my fellow Buffalonians and have one more cold beer for the ride in town center

That is if I can sell my house at the beach and get there in time

A couple of these guys have it right. From what I've read, if the Yellowstone Super volcano blows, the party's over for all of North America, not just Wyoming. And most of the world, too.
