Hi,

We spent the week of Thanksgiving in Cheyenne to scope it out and see if we'd like to relocate there. We were cautioned about buying a house outside the city limits because homeowner's insurance would be very high due to no fire department coverage. Can anyone comment on this advice?

Thanks!

Cathy

that can be true anywhere in the country,my company will only insure within 8 miles of a firehouse.if you find a house you like ask who they are insured with, they'll give you a general quote before you purchase.there are a lot of variables when it comes to homeowners insurance, you often fare better on rural properties by consulting an independent agent who handles several companies and handles a lot of rural clients.talk to several as rates can vary be as much as 50-70%.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll keep in mind that I should ask the current owners.

There is a volunteer fire house about a mile from one of the homes we were interested in. Does that count?

There you go CathyCDK, just ask the volunteers if they would put out a fire at that location and you will have your answer. Wyomiles
