So I was going to the Gastonia/Lake Wylie border today so I took the usual route of 160 to 49.... which leads me to ask WHY is zoar road so popular? It backed up the traffic to the Wachovia, and I would say 3 out of 5 cars were taking a left to go to that street, with plenty of people coming from NC turning right there, and atleast 12 cars deep turning onto 160 from zoar.

Looking at google maps, it just leads you to a bunch of streets around the lake... but im guessing people are using it as a short cut to get on 49? I dont see it as much of a shortcut if your waiting in 30+ car deep lines to turn left.

This "pennies for progress" needs to happen sooner then later, as the traffic there is some of the WORST ive seen in the places ive lived.

...and I thought the traffic at the BP station on 160 is bad, yikes.

Zoar Road is a cut through to Youngblood which takes you into the Palisades i.e. lots of homes. The traffic backups since it is one lane trying to turn left into it, with plenty of traffic coming from the other direction.

Like I said in another thread, we so need a light/turn lane at Zoar as well as further down at 160/Hamiliton (NC side), which is also a cut through for the Palisades and includes a school/neighborhoods on Hamiliton.

For years Zoar Rd was a short cut to Hwy 49. After you hit Youngblood you can see where they made Pleasant Hill Rd a dead-end when they widened Hwy 49. At one time you could use Zoar, Youngblood and Pleasant Hill to get to 49 and save some time.

Now that we have a metropolis in that area I hope the changes "Pennies for Progress" is proposing will help that intersection out on 160. It's a disaster turning right from the traffic light at Gold Hill and 160 until you reach the NC area that has been been improved.

But ... one has to vote in June to approve Pennies or nothing will be done.
