Default Ohioian looking to move to York County, is the Job market as bad as they say?

My Fiance and I are possibly moving to York County this July. Now she is a teacher and there are all kind of jobs for her down there. Actually she will already have a job locked in before we move, but I was wondering if there are any decent paying jobs down there for myself. I know NC and SC have one of the highest unemployement rates in the country but maybe down there it isnt as bad. Just a little about myself, Im 24 years old and ive had the same job right out of high school. Ive been working with Kraftmaid Cabinetry since july 2003. Its a cabinet factory and im just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on places that may be hiring. Thank you for your time.

"reported" unemployment numbers in York County and around the Charlotte region are anywhere from the low teens to low twenties....

It IS as bad as they say.....there is no magic bullett for people who are moving in from out of state....

DO NOT move here unless you have secure employment and at least a years worth of emergency fund IMO.......

It would be very unwise to move here without a job unless you are flat out wealthy.

I mean i have some money saved up to move. And my fiance will already have a teaching job, shes already had a phone interview so I know that if we moved down she would at least have a job locked up. But in these tough times living alone you almost need two incomes. I just want out of Ohio, the chances of me getting laid of get better everyday.

Hi, former Buckeye here. The job market *is* bad here, and as the previous poster said, you'll be wise to come here with a job. Did you know High Point, NC is one of the world's furniture epicenters? If you want to stick with cabinetry etc., you may find yourself really useful in that area.
A lot of school systems have hiring freezes right now. Your fiance would be fortunate to find a job down here teaching at this time.

I know that even the student teachers in our school were not able to find a job teaching at CMS or Union County next year...just make sure that her job is a "definite" before you make the move!!

I would say come on down. The job market down here is better than that of the Youngstown/Warren Ohio area. There is much less crime down here as well and people seem soo much nicer and plus you cannot beat the weather. I can say that because I grew up in Trumbull county. I would recommend though atleast having a good deal in savings before you make the move or atleast come down for a few months to try to get the feel for it. Also what kind of job would you be looking for? Maybe we can help.

This is quite a ways from York County. You should ask the moderator to move it to the York/Lancaster subforum of SC. You might get better info on your job search.
