Does anyone KNOW OF a bakery in SC that makes fresh crusty 6' to 12' sub rolls for submarine sandwiches? The only knowledge I have is that a Amoroso rolls from Philadelphia are the only answer. I hope to bring a working formula when I live in SC ---if there are no bakers to compete with the Philly sub Roll.

Can anyone give me information of a Bakery that produces sub rolls that are local and in what area? How would you rate the product?

Hi!

We have been here almost two years and are looking for the same thing!! There must be enough "transplants" here who want crusty bread for someplace to make them. I am anxious to see what replies you get!!

I was just talking to the father of the guy who is opening an Italian deli on Rt 160 in Fort Mill in front of the new Wal-Mart. I was asking him if his son will have crusty bread for subs. He seemed to think that he might. So, the deli is supposed to be open in about a month and we will be there!

What area of SC are you moving to?

That's it. I will be looking around for a while for a distribution center for rolls in Lexington, Columbia, etc. At this point my compass points to Summerville where my son lives. BUT. Keep in touch. A good roll is hard to find unless shipped. That could be changed. Pass it on!

Publix supermarket makes fantastic sub rolls, in my opinion. They are more "crusty" and chewy than typical sub shop rolls. Another option is artisan bread rolls (demi), which are usually available at more upscale supermarkets. They have a nice thick, tough crust and a more dense interior. These are great for eating along with a meal, or as a sub roll.

Publix is not available (anymore) in the Fort Mill/Rock Hill area where we are, but we have seen artisan breads in the supermarkets here... Earth Fare and Lowe's Foods (not to be confused with Lowe's Home Stores).

There is also a new Breadsmith bakery in Fort Mill, but last I checked, they do not make sub rolls. I hear there will be an Italian deli opening in front of the new Walmart complex on Rt 160 in Fort Mill and Breadsmith is supposed to make their sub rolls. So, we may have something to look forward to!!

Harris teeter sells Artisan sub-rolls, they also sell take and bake rolls that are crusty, both are good.
