Elings Park

Elings Park was once called Las Positas Friendship Park. It contains 230 acres of land in Santa Barbara, California. To get into the park visitors need to take Las Positas Road and south US Highway 101. The park has plenty of recreational activities like hiking, sports, biking, playgrounds, event venues, and landscaped walkways. The park is definitely a place for youth sports, outdoor activities, mountain biking, and paragliding. The north side of the park has a bit of history having been formed on the old Santa Barbara City Dump.

The park was opened in 1985 to the public, with name changes in 1991 and 1999. It also received money from Virgil Elings and his family in 1999. This money was two million dollars in order to help fund the park. This is why it is now named after Virgil Elings. Pet owners particularly like the park because they can walk their dogs off their leashes. It does require a membership to EPDOG or Elings Park Dog Owners Group to access a particular part of the park that is considered a dog community. Dogs can run around on the land and in the open space as long as they have the proper tag.
