Gates of Lodore Trail - Dinosaur, CO - Views of the Green River and serene walking trail

The Gates of Lodore is a nature trail located at the north end of the Monument near the campground of Gates of Lodore in Dinosaur, Colorado. Hikers or visitors may walk along the trail to take a look at the Green River where it enters the Canyon of Lodore. The trail is just 3/4 mile one way and is an easy trail to stroll along. This is not your typical strenuous hiking trail and recommended for beginners or those who just want to take a walk in the outdoors. The trail is situated approximately 137 miles from the Temporary Visitor Center and 101 miles from the Canyon Area Visitor Center.

The trail is level in terrain and sits above the Green River. The location provides great views of the river as it enters the Lodore Canyon. The area is aptly named because the trail opening looks like it is a gate to the entrance of the river into the canyon. The trail itself does not provide access to the Lodore Canyon and is impassible by foot.

It is always recommended that hikers, no matter how easy the trail may be, pack water sources while traveling along trails. Insect repellant is also recommended at this location.
