Lone Pine Creek


Near Lone Pine, CA, the trout fishing starts a couple of months before other fishing spots in the Eastern Sierra. Lone Pine Creek is one of several streams that is stocked with Rainbow and Brown Trout by the Department of Fish and Game regularly.

On March 1, at the start of the trout fishing season, Lone Pine hosts the Opener Trout Derby with prizes and activities to celebrate each year's fishing season. To the west of Lone Pine sits Mt. Whitney, the tallest peak in the lower 48 states.

Lone Pine is also the Golden Trout headquarters, but fishermen must obtain a permit to catch this type of fish. The Lone Pine Creek Area has five different camping areas, ranging in elevation from 6,000 feet above sea level to 8,300 feet and totaling 100 campsites.

To locate Lone Pine Creek, visitors should turn west at the stop light in Lone Pine. The best fishing in this creek is located at the mouth of the canyon. Lone Pine, CA sits between Death Valley and the Sequoia National Forest a little over 150 miles north of Bakersfield, CA. While at Lone Pine Creek, visitors might also enjoy other tourist sites nearby, including Lone Pine Film Festival, Lone Pine Film History Museum, or the Manzanar National Historic Site.
