Matanzas Creek Winery

The Matanzas Creek Winery in Santa Rosa is practically obscured from view by its three mountain peaks but since 1977, it has been the home of a winery that produces a bountiful, sustainable product that is rich and full-bodied. The wine collection include reds like merlot, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon, and syrah, whites including sauvignon blanc and chardonnay, a rose, and two dessert wines. The area was named an American Viticultural Area in 2003 because of its climate, soil, and topographical aspects. The three mountains are named Sonoma, Taylor and Bennet, and the thick fog is often seen rising from amidst the trio. The climate has been compared to that of the Russian River Valley. In addition to the vineyard, Matanzas is home to a lavender farm which began in 1991. People come from all over the world to not only sample the wines, but to enjoy the fresh lavender grown in groves around the winery. The Custom Crush Wine Club offers members multiple tiers from which to join and provides each tier with access to special events, limited edition wines, and preferred pricing and discounts on wines, clothing, and lavender products. Events at the winery include the Days of Wine and Lavender Festival, the Enchanted Evening Winemaker Dinner, and the Annual Harvest Party. The tasting room is open each day from 10 AM until 4:30 PM and there is no appointment required for tasting.
