Sacramento River Water Intake Structure

Sacramento River Water Intake Structure is located at Jibboom Street in Sacramento, California and is approximately 10 miles from Sacramento International Airport. As well as having a practical function of pumping 160 million gallons of water each day, this structure is also a grand piece of architecture located on the Sacramento River. The 12,000 square foot building uses eight pumps and was built to replace an older treatment plant in the area.

Visitors can come to the building daily from 9am to 3pm in the winter, whilst in the summer it stays open until dusk. The boat shaped structure is made from concrete and also contains distinctive glass architecture. From the 40 foot high observation deck visitors are treated with great views of the city as well as the river.

The walk leading up to the building is paved with artwork including little red salmon and on top of the building is a huge silver feather that spins in the wind. Just a short distance from the water intake structure on I Street is the California State Railroad Museum, which is the largest of its type in North America. There are eateries within one kilometer of the structure too including the Pilothouse Restaurant on the Delta King located on Front Street.
