Ventura County Museum of History & Art

The mission of the Ventura County Museum of History and Art states that they are a facility that celebrates, preserves and interprets the art, history and culture of Ventura County, the California Channel Islands and the surrounding region through collections, exhibitions, events, education programs, publications and its research library, and serves as a gathering place for the community. The museum opened its doors in 1913 and is located at 100 East Main Street in Ventura, California.

The museum is open from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm each Tuesday through Saturday and closed most Mondays. The research library is open from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm each Tuesday through Saturday. Parking at the museum is adjacent to the building and free of charge every day. There are over 75,000 people per year that enjoy the museum's tours and special programs, as well as the ever-changing museums.

There are both adult and children's programs available at the museum. Over 5,000 children from 120 schools visit the museum each year for hands-on tours and programs. There are also outreach programs that extend to over 50 schools and reach 4,000 children. The Museum also offers "Third Sunday" family art activities, and the Chumash Youth and ArtStart summer programs.
