Yosemite Village

Yosemite Village is a community north of Mariposa County, located in the Yosemite National Park. It is the most developed location within the park. It is on the north side of Yosemite Valley and residents include National Park Service staff and many of the concession workers that work within the park. There are a number of facilities located within the village including a post office, a fire station, a convenience store, a medical clinic, gift shops, restaurants, a school and the park's headquarters. This enables the residents who live within the park to live without having to leave the park, much like people would do on a military base. At one time, the park was controlled by the United States military. Also located in the village is the Yosemite Lodge, the Ahwahnee Hotel and Yosemite Falls. The homes located in the village are shed-like in stature and were built with the native wood available in the park. It is similar to Camp Curry, another bustling destination in Yosemite Valley located a miles southwest of Yosemite Village. Most people visiting Yosemite National Park spend some time in the village in addition to hiking, camping, exploring and enjoy the natural terrain of the park.
