Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

The Misadventures Of A Courier Dispatcher

It's pretty incredible that each work day brings a sense of not knowing what's going to happen next, good or bad. Such is the case in life, anyway, but you never know what surprises await when laboring for eight to ten hours a day. Stuff of life happens. That's right. Especially in my place of business and busyness.

When I'm not at home producing computer chickenscratch for all the world to see, I'm working at another computer at my office. I work as a courier...

What We NOW Know About Your Houston Astros

Posted 05-26-2012 at 08:20 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Going into this season, many sportswriters and prognosticators and others had made their predictions for how things will turn out with Major League Baseball teams in 2012. When the time came to pick how the Houston Astros would finish, given that they are in a rebuilding mode and coming off their worst season in franchise history (and the only time they would lose at least 100 games, as they had 106), many folks were predicting that the 'Stros would finish with at least 100 losses this...

And There's A 20% Chance Of Disappointment

Posted 05-20-2012 at 04:32 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Well, so much for more rain in North Texas in this particular spring season. Just haven't had very much of it at all. The expectations were there for a wet spring, but it hasn't ended with the end result everybody wanted.

So, I learned the other day that some parts of my region have had below-normal rainfall in the past two months. The Dallas-Fort Worth area's drought is not as severe as it had been, but even now, it's still not out of the woods. We are...

Talk About Accents: Texas Possesses The Most Fun

There are conversation pieces and then there are conversation pieces. Can you imagine for a moment if the conversation you're having with someone else actually becomes the conversation piece?

And, no, they're not limited just to physical things you can look at.

I just thought about a lady whom I had a phone conversation with many years ago. And for the record, she called me. For some odd reason, I don't know how she got it or what prompted...

Don't Forget Your Cousins -- They're Important, Too

I realize that Mother's Day is coming fast and furious, and I'll chase whatever rabbit necessary to ensure that that particular day will be sweet and enjoyable. But mothers aren't the only family members I enjoy spending time with. Sometimes, the most taken-for-granted family entity is the cousin, and that's in any family. And if you don't like meeting with cousins, well, you just don't like the Monday night chicken-fried special at Cotton Patch Cafe.

We tend...
