My Daily Life and Thoughts while in San Diego | List of Best Posts
This blog is where I express myself to the world or at least to those who might stop by to read what I post . Maybe God will use what I post (I am a Christian and this blog will have a most decidedly Christian bent to it) to good effect in the lives of my readers.

I may turn some of my posts into a book. I may cease blogging here altogether. Who knows. But for now..I am content to post away in this, my own little corner of the world.

Rather than reading through my now lengthy list of posts you may wish to read what I consider to be my very best posts or you can just read the posts that deal with a single subject category that might interest you.

Please know that I am open to any input on any topic I write about. If you have something to say about anything you see written here please....feel free to speak up in the form of leaving a comment or sending me a PM (private message).

And if you are in San Diego and wish to meet the one and only Carlos (that's me )...drop me a private message. I always enjoy meeting one of my readers!

Thanks.

Carlos

PS. If you want to follow my blog such that you will get an email when I write new posts you can subscribe to my blog.

Sometimes the number of views for one of my posts is just...well...weird.

Sometimes I go back and look over my old posts, mainly out of curiosity, to see what the view counts are.

It's quite surprising to me that many of my old posts have view counts over 200. A fair number are over 400, and some even top 800 views!

I don't know what to make of these numbers and often times take them in stride. Most are probably from the search engines and are just people coming here to read my posts since there would likely be more comments to some of what I have said if they were just city-data members stopping by to read my blog.

It's not necessarily a trivial thing to register for membership at city-data and then figure out how to respond and post a comment on this blog so I imagine most people just read and then go on their merry way (one of the many reasons why I really do have to take this blog off to it's own domain...someday .

I do occasionally get a PM from someone who has registered apparently just to contact me since they have no post count otherwise. Which is great.

But in all this it just continues to surprise me how much some of my posts are read.

Take the recent post where I just had a bit of a fun talking about a supposed GIANT California snake!

I was a bit surprised to learn that I had achieved the number 1 position in the SERP's (search engine rankings) on Google for the term "giant California snakes".

I guess it's not too surprising given that one can easily achieve top ranking for a phrase that no one ever looks for but still that post ranked very quickly (one of the benefits of blogging here in connection with a site...city-data, that Google has high regard for).

But still...it made me wonder where the supposed 81 views (as of this moment) for that post came from if not from the search engines. I have no way of knowing here on city-data since I have no access to site logs but my guess is that many of those views came a looking because they entered something like "giant California snakes" into a search engine.

All interesting stuff.

Especially because I have had to become a student of SEO and search engine rankings in line with my attempt to build an Adsense empire of web sites, God willing.

It would seem that one of the most fundamental tenants of getting traffic still holds true. Namely that interesting, unique, content still gets attention from the search engines.

Something to keep in mind when considering how to get web site visitors.

And I haven't even tried to get traffic to come view my blog! Makes me wonder how well this blog would do if I had it independently hosted on it's own domain.

Yeah, your posts are attractive,so a lot of people come to view them, they are the fixed readers of yours like me.

And another part of the readers just read the posts which have high views,so they also come to your blog.
So "times take them in stride".

Come on carlos, share more of your daily life with us,you are a good writer.

Howdy Haller. Great to hear from you. It's nice sometimes to get a comment and not fall into thinking that I am mostly talking to myself LOL.

Regarding sharing more of my life with you by all means I can do that. But honestly my life at this point in time is primarily occupied with CSS, PHP, HTML, cross browser compatibility, Adsense, postings in technical and marketing forums, keyword research, ECPC, LSV, MSV, Adword Keyword Tool analysis, and other such things which most people find rather mundane.

I'm not sure I would want to write about all that in addition to spending all day working on it. This blog is one of the most fulfilling and entertaining things (at times) that I do to give myself a break once in while. It wouldn't be much of a break if I blogged about what I do all day with work related topics (though a lot of my "work" is actually more like play I do at times need a break).

If I wrote about all the technical stuff I might burn myself out. Don't know.

For example I spent almost the entire day today ironing out a cross browser CSS incompatability and posting on technical forums to try and get help ironing it out. I still haven't figured it out completely. I wouldn't want to then write about it here on this blog too.

    Hope that makes sense.

How is it going in China Haller? What's the news from your end of the world if you don't me asking?

You don't have to answer but if you feel inclined to share some I for one would be very interested in hearing anything you might have to say.

Hey...I got an idea! Why don't you start your own city-data blog about your life in China? I'd be the first in line to read it. Just a thought for you to consider.

    Hi

Hi carlos,I certainly have my blog, but it is in Chinese in another zone.
And I don't update it so continually like you.Because I am not a good writer,I can't write out all my thoughts freely,it's a pity.
And I also have a diary book, where I can write something I don't want the others to know
    Girls always have secrets

Sometimes I read my old diary too, otherwise I couldn't remember how I spend the past times and how I become mature.I am forgetful

I also have my city-data blog here. But all my posts are very short ,not so abundant and attractive like yours.
I prefer to be a good reader.

Recently, everything of mine is going well.
I work for 8 hours every day (from 9:00am to 6:00pm,including one hour lunch time at noon)and 5 days every week.

sorry,I have to leave now,I will continue talking about my daily life with you next time

It's okay to be curious about numbers of views people make (heck, I do it), but it shouldn't be such a big deal. If people comment on something you've written, then you've impacted a life today. Many people travel through here each day. That's something.

Hi Case! Welcome to my little corner of the world...well...the city-data world at least .

Yeah it's not a huge deal...how many people read my blog I mean. I write what I feel like writing whether a lot of people come to read it or not. It's mostly a way for me to express myself which I enjoy doing. All the better of course if people are interested in reading what I have to say.

But...I don't sweat the view counts. It was just something that I had looked at and wanted to...well...express myself on.

It definitely would have been interesting to have read it. But...I don't speak Chinese so not much I can do about that.

That's not so much a pity Haller as just different than me. I am sure that you are gifted in some things that I am not very good in.

    You don't say

Yeah...my memory isn't what it used to be either. What's funny is that I used to keep a journal (a man's version of a diary of course LOL) but when it dawned on me that I would never have the time or interest to go back and read the whole thing I stopped writing it.

No problem at all Haller. I am overjoyed to have you as a reader. Especially since your reading my blog allows me to tell my friends that my blog is even read in China LOL. Of course that doesn't mean much these days since anything on the Internet can be read in China but it does sound impressive

You are blessed in such a schedule Haller. In many respects and in the long run I will probably be better off in that I will be able to live anywhere in the world that has an internet connection but in order to get there I have to put in 20 hour days sitting in front of my computer. Day after day. Week after week. With the exception of taking one day off a week or at least trying to. I enjoy what I do and see the light at the end of tunnel so to speak so it's well worth it but you are blessed to be able to come home and leave your work at...well...work.
