Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

One Thing I Resolve Never To Do

Posted 01-12-2010 at 11:41 AM by case44

We've appeared to have gotten Baby New Year off to a great start, so we'll just feed him his bottle. While that's going on, I have this thought. It's 2010, and back on that magical January 1, many folks all over the world made either one or several resolutions that they've chosen to change or straighten out their lives.

How much do you want to bet they've already broken one? It's what day now, the 12th? It's practically comical how many people make promises or resolutions and never keep them.

Which is all the more reason for me to make this one resolve which I know I'll never break: I simply won't make a New Year's resolution. As set in my ways as I am, if I sense a need to change something in my life, sure, I'll do it. I'm just too lazy to make resolutions on New Year's Day, as it would just be a waste of time; plus, something's going to get broken along the way. I just never saw the logic in doing so in the past. If my life depended on one New Year's resolution and I tried to keep it going, I'd go nuts.

Now, don't get me wrong, ladies and gentlemen. Those of you that have made resolutions and kept them and made good on them, I applaud you with all sincerity. In fact, I'd like to shake your hand. You've set some boundaries and parameters and, perhaps, personal goals for yourselves, and I think that is marvelous! Keep it up. Matter of fact, in the comment section below, you may feel free to tell me and the rest of the C-D world whether or not you've made a resolution, or if you've fulfilled (so far) the resolution you've chosen.

But as for me and my abode and everything in my world, no resolutions in this household. Thanks, though. My days will be just like they are from now until something else happens. Nothing needs changing now, and I'll be the same ol' case today and.....well, if God promises me another day, then I'll live it to the fullest tomorrow if it comes.

Hope your New Year has gotten off to a flying start, troops, and whatever you do, press on!

I see your point. The world sees too many broken promises, so I do see why it can be difficult to keep even one New Year's resolution.
