Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

More Scattershooting / A Switch-Pitcher In Baseball?

Well, gang, here we are once again with more this and that from the great view of my second-floor patio at my humble abode. We are going to scattershoot yet again. And you, the humble and discerning reader, are worth all of that. So, let's gather around the computer campfire and I'll bring some extra hangers for those huge marshmallows.

Usually in major league baseball, the order of strategy in games for managers is to utilize pitchers, and these tossers generally use one natural arm by which to jettison the offering to the hitter at the plate.

Until this year.

Never would I have dreamed of seeing a possible "switch-pitcher" in baseball. The fact that he currently pitches for the Yankees is not important. It's the ammunition for strategy that he does carry.........on both of his arms. One thing for certain: If he does make it to the big leagues, it will be history-making, to say the least. Might make for some great drama. Or great comedy, depending on how you look at it.

Ever wonder what it's like to compare oil prices with those of a Big Mac? You're going to find out right here (and, no, that burger picture is not that of a Big Mac):

My upcoming post-thyroidectomy radioactive iodine treatment in April means I'll have to go on a strict, iodine-free diet for the next few weeks in preparation for the procedure. It will be interesting to see how I handle things when I get certain cravings. Keep me in your prayers. We'll get through all of this soon enough.

Country star Billy Currington just scored another number one hit song for the record books. He's one of the few modern artists that I like. Below is a story about the writers of his latest single, "That's How Country Boys Roll".

Gas prices are inching upward yet again. Sounds like a broken record, doesn't it? When will the madness end? While the following may or may not provide a temporary solution, President Obama is actually entertaining the idea of drilling off the Virginia coast. Perhaps, for once, Barry may be on to something. Stay tuned on that.

I love a good dumb criminal story. Here's an example of how to really mess up stealing someone else's identity.

Aren't we having so much fun on the Music forums these days? For those of you who frequent that side of City-Data like I do, I want to personally laud you and thank you for the great music from YouTube that you have been placing there for our enjoyment, alongside my offerings (the ones that call for YouTubes, anyway). It's been so much fun, and you guys and gals make those threads great! Keep it up! I'm looking forward to same later on today, with more Country Gold plus the other things you crave, but first, it's about getting business such as this done.

And now, for our Word Of The Day. I had to really think about this one. Today's word is sleep. Your favorite blog writer lives by getting plenty of sleep each day. I've got one more work day as I sit and write this blog entry, but later on, when the weekend comes around, there's nothing like sleeping a little extra when you have more leisure time. Relaxing, isn't it? What can I do the next day? Ehhhh, let me sleep on it, and I'll get back to you!

And there you are.

That's interesting that you pointed out an ambidextrous pitcher, case. I've been hearing quite a bit about him. It should be fun to watch this year if he makes it in. I actually wouldn't mind seeing him in a Cards uniform if things didn't work out for the Yanks.

And you can sleep on that.

Believe it or not, I've wondered in the past if there might ever be a switch-pitcher. I might actually watch a Yankees game if he pitches.
