I Hate My Job

Posted 06-23-2008 at 09:34 PM by stotan88

I hate my job. So much.

I'm a university student working at a local superstore just to pay for books and tuition and food and whatnot. Not to be pompous or for bragging-rights, but I am my departments best employee. They are SOO lucky I have stuck around as long as I have. They expect so much from me, give me so much work to do, and if I dont get it all done, they seem to be very unimpressed.

I am definitely not appreciated enough at that place. I work my ass off every day yet I get no kind of encouragement or thanks. And today I found out that another local superstore of the same company as ours went out of business and their employees are moving to OUR store, meaning the 3 years I spent gaining seniority will be flushed down the drain, since a bunch of them have worked at that store longer than I have worked at mine. Plus, come November, everyone's wages are dropping.

It just seems so unfair, and I know I'm venting and I probably have it better than so many others, but the feeling of not being appreciated enough just kills me. I know it's a business but a kind gesture or some sign of appreciation never hurts.

Thanks for reading.

Until next time...

I love my job. It's "customer service" .... no college ed required. All I need is a smile to say "good afternoon, may I help you?" I help them (with the same smile.... not a "fake one") and they usually come back.

If you're "under-appreciated" where you are now then you need to find a boss like mine..... oh, wait.....

Edit: I've been where you are (minus college) it took a while to find the job I have now... best advice, keep looking and don't lose faith.

My experience has been that the more you give, the more they expect and take for granted.

I was brought up to do things to the best of my ability and then some. I have always taken pride in every task I've been given and gone above and beyond, but without any appreciation. While those around me happily do the minimum expected of them with no consequences. I guess I sound bitter, I guess I am.

I always think if I could just go back in time and start all over.... Well you've probably heard that before! But we can't go back. Circumstances in our lives force us to chose one path while our hearts want to follow another.

I hope you find the courage to go outside the box and do what is in your heart and gut and don't settle for less. Don't have regrets because you didn't pursue your dreams. And always do your best even if life doesn't seem fair, because if you don't then you'll be disappointed in yourself and that's worse than being disappointed in others.

Look around for another job dude! You are a college student and that says alot about you already. Go online and look through the monster job ads, your local newspaper ads, check out recruiters that are paid by companies to find the perfect people for them. In the past some of my best jobs came through recruiters and it didn't cost me a thing. It's a great way to get your foot in the door at a company that sounds good to you. Check it out and don't give up, be persistent, be intentional about your new job search, don't be slack about it, you will be happy when you find a job where you are appreciated and I promise you that you will be kicking yourself in the butt when you are working at a new job and are happy and you realize that you put yourselt through the agony of your current job for nothing. I know I have experienced it myself and I had to learn that lesson the hard way. I won't ever make that mistake again, it's just not worth it. God wants you to be happy, not miserable, I promise. Pray often and have the faith that you are going to find a great job and you will, you'll see.
