It Was Supposed to be Today...

Well, for months I have been planning on meeting a friend who I met on YouTube down in Indianapolis, and I was supposed to leave today. And for weeks I had been trying to find the easiest/cheapest way of getting down there. My friend lives in Little Rock, AR, so she and I were meeting half way in Indianapolis.
The reason I didn't go was because there WAS no cheap or easy way down there, or at least not from what I could find. I could take a 15hr bus ride for nearly $200, but...lets face it, thats absurd. And I could've flown down for nearly $500 (with taxes/airport tax/etc.) but that broke my budget. And as for the train, living in London, ON, Amtrack doesn't come to my city, and I would've had to catch a 7:30am train in Toronto, that would've had to transfer THREE times! (Buffalo, Detroit, and Chicago). There was no direct route from Toronto to indianapolis, or even Detroit to Indianapolis; they all seemed to have to go through Chicago, making the train ride nearly 11hrs in length and costing around $250.
Why is it so hard to travel these days? Or am I not doing proper research? I could've sworn I hit every budget plane ticket website, every train site, but I couldn't find anything substantially more convenient or cheap than the figures above. So if you are reasing this and you know of any good tips/sites/companies that offer cheap travelling or simpler ways of getting from A to B, I would love to hear them. Thank you in advance.
Until next time...
