Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Scattershooting Again / Astros Are Setting A New Record

Here we go once more with a little scattershooting as I continue my weekend. But whichever time you do read this, hopefully, you'll just enjoy the tasty tidbits which are part of life in general. So, let us proceed with this, shall we?

The Houston Astros are my baseball team of choice. They've been a successful franchise for fifty years, although not quite to the same degree as the New York Yankees. It's also the more successful of Texas' two teams, at least at this moment. This year, however, has seen a lot of change in the 'Stros' organization, in that they've had to undergo a rebuilding phase on the field, as well as an ongoing replenishment of a depleted minor league system. Numerous rookies have started throughout the season to see what manager Brad Mills would determine to be everyday starters and good players for the team. While that's all going on, and it's going to take a few years, the Astros are going through a year like none other. They are destined for, at least, 100 losses, something they've never done in Astros history. At this writing, they are at a franchise-record 99 losses, and any loss they get from now until season's end will be a new franchise high. ... ~Sigh~ ... I am confident that Houston will be back on the map before you know it. Let's just preach patience in the meantime.

I come on here because I like to have a little fun, conversation, creativity, opinion, and a little info just for you. We're all on here for one reason or another, and that's a good thing. The forums are here for a lot of reasons. Sadly, though, there are a few out there who just choose to hate for whatever reason. While we've got a First Amendment right to post and express ourselves, we're all going to post, as long as we comply with C-D's TOS. I like to create and have a little fun, and what's wrong with that? Oftentimes, I make posts that just mean something. There are a scant few out there who disapprove of that, however, and here's a suggestion for those who have such a problem with it: Suck it up and deal with it or leave. Other people happen to enjoy the things I put together, and that far outdistances those that don't. There's no rule that says you have to read my posts. So don't read them, then. If you want to hate another person for whatever reason, then that is your choice. It's best to leave well enough alone than to cause trouble or distractions. Sheez, Louise, people, just get a life!

On the topic of sports (baseball, in particular) from earlier, I looked online at the progress of the Florida Marlins' new ballpark slated to open next year. It's coming around good. Nice, sleek, and great sightlines. Should be fun to watch next year, but the name change to the Miami Marlins will take getting used to.

Idle thought: If President Obama and the wacky, lopsided left want to raise taxes on the rich that badly, shouldn't the Hollywood bigwigs be a little nervous and outraged about it?? Sure, many of them worship Barry, but they should be concerned about where their finances are being taken. After all, those things affect them, too, since they make ridiculous amounts of money doing what they do just like other millionaires who make their hard-earned dollars. Just a thought......

For those of you in the Frisco area of North Texas, guess what? Y'all are getting a new Whataburger. Yee-haw! Construction is underway on it at the Dallas North Tollway and Eldorado Parkway, right smack in front of the Costco store about to open. It is the second Whataburger in the city of Frisco, and the new store will definitely serve those in West and Northwest Frisco very well. Looking forward to that whenever I get up there.

And now, it's time for our Word Of The Day. Today's word is time. We have so many things to do, but so little time for them. Every waking moment, we deal with the time of day. Right now, speaking of which, it is time to put the finishing touches on this edition of Scattershooting.

And there you are.

I think the Astros will eventually be back, Case. If they bring their kids through the system the right way, they can be back in contention. You'd just have to hope the rest of the division doesn't get better.

    I disagree with you, Case

Not because of anything hateful, but because the word of the day should be RAIN. (Of course, you covered that topic on your next post.) Sorry, couldn't resist.
