Going to church, reading the bible, listening to Christian music will not advance your spiritual life. These activities may give you more understanding but until you are ready to lay down your life and take up your cross this leads nowhere.

What I am talking about is the sacrifice of self to advance the cause of Jesus Christ in the world. There is a destiny that God had for each of us that only we can personally discover. We can discover it only by detaching from the world and making ourselves available for the Holy Spirit. By detaching from the world--now you have time--the commodity that most Christians are not willing to give.

Jesus said, "Self-help is not help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, to finding yourself, your true self. (Matthew 16:25)

"God has planted eternity in the human heart." (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

"Anyone who lets himself be distracted from the work I plan for him is not fit for the Kingdom of God." (Luke 9:62)

"The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work that the Lord Jesus gave me." (Acts 20:24)

"We have been sent to speak for Christ." (2 Corinthians 5:20)

"We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10)

Affirmation: The resources I need to complete my assignment are unlimited - the only restrictions are between my ears.

The calling of Christ will modify the way we make life choices, the job we do, and the priorities we set. -- Charles Ringma

A Christian will backslide when he does not function in his calling, just as a muscle atrophies with lack of use. An idle believer isolates himself, becoming easy prey for the enemy. - John Bevere

If the illumination of the Holy Spirit, as a present work among men is denied for today, then nothing is left but the fleshly work and carnal wisdom of the old man. - William Law

Affirmation: I have the anointing of God's Word. My circumstances don't hear me talking anymore; they hear Jesus talking.

The Word is a flame of fire! It may burn in your bones. It may move every tissue in your life. - Smith Wigglesworth

"For thou has exalted thy word above all thy name." Psalm 138:2

If our spiritual life is healthy (under the power of the Holy Spirit) PRAYING AT ALL TIMES will be natural. - Andrew Murray

Pray. Pray. Pray. Teach people to pray. Prayer and prayer alone, much prayer, persistent prayer, is the door of entrance into the heart of God. - John Lake

Our conversation with God should be utterly free and familiar, because God is the only person who will never, ever misunderstand us or reject us, hate us, ignore us, or be indifferent to us. These are the reasons we hide from other people, even our friends, even our parents, and the reasons we should never hide from God. - Peter Kreeft

"For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me up." - Psalm 27:10

Affirmation: My purpose is eternal. Having an eternal perspective changes the way I daily interact with others and my mundane chores.

Personal fulfillment can become an idol; it can develop into such an obsession that we are living for happiness more than living for God. Part of our salvation includes having our desires prioritized by Christ. - Francis Frangipane

"To have no opinion of ourselves, and to think always well and highly of others, is great wisdom and perfection." - Thomas a Kempis

"If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." - Mark 8:34

Our difficulty is due primarily to the fact that we have failed to understand Jesus' teaching that the way to self-fulfillment is through self-denial. To save the life is to lose it; to lose it for Christ's sake is to save it (Mark 8:35). - Richard Foster

Make me a captive, Lord, And then I shall be free. - George Matheson
