Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Changes On The Horizon For The Casester

People have always said that change is good. And other times, you've heard people say that they don't like change. Such things are always the case with the course of life. Well, with the things in my life that need a little restructuring, sometimes I'll probably hear it from both sides.

In the coming days and weeks, Ol' Case has a few traditions that will end, but some new ones will be beginning. This has been thought about for some time, but I believe it's the right decision and also the right time to do it. In an effort to try to spend less time at the computer and more time trying to do new things, case44 will see a season of change. I'm not mad at anyone and no one has done anything bad; I just need to restructure a few things in my life, that's all. I also need to breathe a little bit.

As many of you already know, I am a frequent contributor on our Music forums. I enjoy the heck out of it and have a great time being involved in it. And I will continue doing so, but there will be some changes to my repertoire. I have a few traditions on there, if you will. The most notable of those is my weekly Friday tradition on the popular "Free For All" thread. For the past few years, I've done a thing called Friday 3-Fers. I love putting those things together and it is always a joy to share music from different artists, but also, it's a great opportunity to learn new things about the artists I'm posting, with the songs they sing. On May 17, I will plan to end that weekly series. Now, don't panic. I'm not leaving; rather, I'm just restructuring. The 3-Fer series will then move to the weekends and there will be less structure and preparation, two things that I thrived heavily on when putting together Friday 3-Fers for you. This way, you'll still get your 3-Fer fix. On Fridays thereafter, I'll be introducing a new tradition called the Friday Flashback. I'll take one or two oldie selections from the '20s through the '80s and tell you some minutiae about the songs or artists. Conversely, the new 3-Fer offerings will be relabeled Weekend 3-Fers. Those posts will be less frequent, but, hopefully, just as effective.

Also, Tuesdays will change, as well. Today will mark my final installment (as it were) of a less-trumpeted tradition that I do which is called Oldies Tuesday. I usually do three-song sets containing oldies from the '50s, '60s, and '70s. Replacing that, in a way, will be Friday Flashback. So, those are the only changes you'll be seeing in the future. My other traditions (Waxing Eclectic on "Free For All" and Country Gold on "Classic Country") will not change.

Hey, everybody needs to exhale now and then rather than spewing out so much stuff. I know you'll understand the reasons behind my decision to do what I'm going to do. By the way, thanks for your kind words, comments, and the time you've spent listening to my offerings (and putting up with my corny humor). It's always a joy to share things with fellow posters.

I'll be around. See y'all real soon.

I understand if it's time for a change, and everybody goes through that. But I will miss that great Friday tradition of yours that you made so much fun. I think a lot of people are going to say the same thing.

Looking forward to your bit tomorrow.

Hope you enjoyed the stuff I did yesterday. Missed you, by the way.

Thanks for the great comments. This is, however, a necessary decision. I'm just plumb tired, and I've got to make some changes with my life, and so, I'm preparing y'all for it. It's really not going to be the end of the world. Just ending a long-running Friday series, and although it's been good to me, it just takes a lot out of me.

Well, that day has now passed.

Thanks, ladies and gentlemen, for allowing me to spend so much time on Fridays entertaining you in a C-D sort of way. You've allowed me to be creative, and you came out, and you've read, and you've listened. Thanks for helping me making Fridays so-o-o-o-o-o-o special for you. Many of you have come and gone, but others have stayed with me ever since the old "Anything Goes" threads. I can't believe it's been three years since I first put together Friday 3-Fers. No, I'm not crying. But it is time for a little closure. Whatever happens, "Free For All" will still be there, and the thread's overall mission will still be the same.

You know, I do need to sleep in next Friday. Soon as I wake, I'll be around for you for a little bit.

    Well, shoot.

I may have to run The Show on Wednesdays then.

I don't do any structure really and just riff off you a whole lot. I hope to not have to plan and just be weird as normal. ;)

I will still be around to post with you whenever you do though, haha. Can't name it A BB Shot in the Butt though, cause I never know....

It's lots of fun to do. And I look forward to Fridays.
