Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Classic Country Music Thoughts From The Casester

Posted 12-28-2013 at 05:15 AM by case44

As another year draws to a close, we are spending time looking back at said year just happened. And we all know that people don't go on forever while on Planet Earth, but we lost two giants in the country music genre in 2013, and both will be sorely missed. While people's lives in their physical bodies eventually end, their music goes on forever.

Their nicknames were The Possum and The Master. Their voices were unmistakable and iconic. And that's essentially what they were: icons. They also happen to be two fellow Texans. Country music legends George Jones and Ray Price were two such artists, and nothing I write in this space would do enough justice to them. Listen to their songs and you'll see why. But they also helped shape country music into the diversified, multi-dimensional genre that it is, with a number of different stylings representative of the field.

Ray Price and George Jones: Gone, but never forgotten.

In addition, kudos and thanks to the folks at Sirius XM's Willie's Roadhouse channel (XM 56) for playing the all-time greats, and for taking the time to remember our aforementioned artists. They deserve a big award for their efforts. In a non-commercial format, there's a little more time and a little more music, so it's good that the jocks there take time to showcase the all-time greats.

And my buddy Tom Allen at Austin's KOKE-FM hasn't been on the air in the last few weeks. His voice was on his weekly "Country Gold Show", but has been resorted to the half-assed recorded bumpers after each four-song segment. Don't know why, but that's been happening the last three programs. I just hope that rascal is okay, health-wise. I'll write to him this week and see what's up. He loves traveling in his RV, but no one takes an RV trip for three weeks. In all seriousness, his fans want to know if he's okay. Keep him in your prayers, folks. He's not getting any younger and things do happen as people get older. Ask Ray and George, who are now singing in Heaven.

Update on Tom Allen: He had some issues with his heart and had been hospitalized. Doing great now. He'll be returning to KOKE within a few weeks.

Oh, also, KOKE's fourth-floor elevator wasn't working and they're getting a specialist after it to get it fixed. Tom wasn't allowed by his doctor to go up three flights of stairs.

Ray Price certainly will be missed. I thought he was a great artist and he's certainly gotten lots of accolades in his time. You know, it wasn't that long ago that he was on stage with Willie Nelson at one of the last 4th of July concerts that he did.
