Things That Go Bump In The Night

Posted 07-14-2008 at 05:25 AM by Sly25:17

I became interested in ghosts, hauntings, the paranormal and unexplained not because of the many shows like Most Haunted,Dead Famous ,or that show with the plumbers but because I have sensed things around me and have seen things since I was little. My house where i lived till I was 21 was and still is haunted by a Mexican/Spanish man from the 18th or 19th century. This information was told to my mother by a psychic friend of hers who has since passed away. She was told that this man and his family were attacked by Indians and buried alive. The man is the one who has made his presence felt more over the years and seems to be more of a protector.I have caught glimpses of this man many times and have heard his boots on our floors at night. We have also heard the sound of a baby crying in the house when there were no babies around. Also at night we have heard the tolling of mission bells and in my area there are no missions. We have churches but none have big heavy bells and those don't ring at 2 or 3 AM. We have also heard the sound of a train(the types from the 1800's) and the strange thing is this sound is behind the house where the highway (Loop410) is.Because I tend to sense things so much It is hard for me to just pass off a cold spot as a bad draft from a window,or sounds as just a house settling or bad plumbing. Because the things I have seen heard and felt cannot be explained so simply as just dust, bad plumbing,or whatever. I have also in my life have seen things that just are really creepy. In Mexican legend there is a story of a half woman ,half owl that is called La Lechusa. Of course in nature there are owls that really get huge but this one is as big as a full grown adult human. To be attacked by one or to see this over ones house is really bad for that family. Usually sickness, family problems, misfortune will occur. They say that when one attacks you that you are supposed to cuss at it to chase it away and to leave chile peppers and salt as an offering at the place where you saw it. The few times that i have seen it was from a distance and i was told by my mother not to worry because it was not sent for me. A few years ago I lived at this apartment complex here in San Antonioand there was such a negative energy there so bad that most visitors would only stay awhile. A real good friend of mine once stayed over because I would not allow him to drive home. After we had all gone to bed it was about maybe 2 AM when he woke me and told me he was going home. He looked kind of freaked out . I tried getting him to stay longer because I was worried about him driving intoxicated but he assured me he was ok .He never told us what it was that startled him and I am sure he does not even remember. I myself had some really disturbing things happen to me at that place.I was often awakened to the feeling of being soffocated by some thing unseen. Some people call it sleep paralysis, and some call it "old hag syndrome" .What ever it is ,it did not feel like a good experience. Those who lived there were often sick and like I said it was just a real dark negative feeling there. This and other things have kept me interested in what is out there. So like I said, my interest in ghosts did not just start because of all the shows that have been around. To begin with I really do not agree with some shows (mainly Ghost Hunters). I can understand that you have to cover all bases to ensure that activity is not being caused by a draft or a loose floor board but damn......sometimes Jason and Grant will beat a theory to death as to why something is happening. Then they will go to the client and say the reason you hear this or feel this is because of loose floorboards or whatever. Then you see the look on the clients face that says"Uh, that is not at all like what I heard." What really gets to me is people like TAPS that go to places like Myrtles Plantation, Winchester Mansion,The Queen Mary,or other known places that have been proven haunted by well established psychics like Peter James and go and try to disprove it. I just don't think they should approach situations that way. They tried it in Ireland and someone got hurt for provoking something they did not understand.

Have you ever been to the Southton Sanitorium in Bexar County? We were just there on 2/15/12 and managed to get in and take some pics.
